Can you give us an overview of the RIGTOOLS Clamp and why it was created?

“Offshore personnel can be required to handle lift subs more than 30 times per shift - these can weigh over 350 kilograms. Due to the repetitiveness of the task, complacency can set in, leading to serious accidents should the equipment not be handled properly.

“Without a specialised tool like the RIGTOOLS Clamp, the handling of these heavy lifting subs is a very manual and often risky process requiring slings and shackles. These manual methods pose a much higher injury risk to personnel due to the exceeding physical strain, while the overall process can take much longer, and can even lead to the lifting subs being damaged should they not be handled correctly.

“For all these reasons, our experts felt like the development of the RIGTOOLS Clamp was essential, and an obvious way to improve the safety and efficiency of this process.”

How does the RIGTOOLS Clamp improve the process of handling lift subs?

“The RIGTOOLS Clamp reduces much of the manual effort required to handle lifting subs, which serves as a connecting piece for drill string components. Our innovative tool securely fits around lifting subs and comes with four pad eyes which are used for either horizontal or vertical lifting, reducing the risk of the lift sub slipping or falling, and potentially injuring personnel.

“Featuring a two-legged lifting sling, the Clamp can easily connect to hoisting equipment and ensures the lifting sub can be lifted effortlessly, without putting any physical strain on personnel. Our product makes the process much safer and efficient for drilling teams, and greatly reduces the amount of time it takes to move lifting subs into place, improving Rig Tripping KPI’s and saving valuable time during the M/U and B/O BHA.

Can you give us an overview of the product’s success?

“Over the last 8/9 years, we have delivered more than 1,200 clamps across every region - we estimate that at least 90% of offshore rigs worldwide use one of our Clamps. The Clamp integrates seamlessly into drilling operations, while the tool itself is extremely ergonomic and intuitive. It’s almost self-evident why drilling operators consistently use our Clamps.

“The success of the RIGTOOLS Clamp can be attributed to our innovative approach and cutting-edge design, setting us apart in the industry, as there really aren’t any other products on the market like it. Meanwhile, the success can also be credited to our team’s dedication to evolving the product wherever possible; this includes designing bespoke sling packages that meet regional requirements, including the Middle East.
